Personally tailored approach

I am a trained integrative counsellor, and I use counselling methods that are person-centred, drawing on a range of techniques including those used in compassion-focused therapy (CFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis (TA) and Gestalt therapy.

This means that I am client-led and tailor your therapy specifically and uniquely to fit you. No two people or circumstances are the same. I may use approaches from a variety of different theoretical perspectives during a course of therapy, but your sessions are guided by you, and listening to what you bring to each session is the heart and focus of each appointment.

Whatever your problem, worry or needs, I will work with you to plan the therapy, and continually assess and monitor progress, discussing and reviewing with you from time to time.

You can choose the spacing of the sessions to fit in with your needs, and we will discuss when we feel the time may be right to bring the sessions to an end. Your sessions are your space to share, vent, off-load or ask for help.

Above all, I will listen to you, from our first informal conversation, to the ending of therapy.

Beginning therapy

Deciding to seek therapy, and reaching out, may be scary at first. The hardest part can be taking that first step. It may seem intense, but I aim to make the process as stress-free as possible.

I am here for you to help you, not judge you. No problem is too big or too small.

Once you have decided to reach out, message me by e-mail or text and I will get in touch to arrange a time for us to talk. I will set up an introductory call at a time that is convenient for you, where we can talk together about your reasons for contacting me and how I can help you.

Then, when you are ready, we will book an initial session either online or in person at the therapy rooms I work from, in Macclesfield town centre.

Reaching your goals

At our initial session I will go through the process of therapy with you, and you can offload your concerns and reasons for wanting counselling. I will listen to all you want to say, and guide you through the process. Towards the end of the session we will discuss your goals and session frequency.

How many sessions you have will depend on what issues you bring, and how you respond. There is no “right” amount, and everyone is different. After approximately 6 sessions, we would together review your goals and progress so far, and discuss moving forwards.

Payment can be made in advance of the session, or at the end of each session.
